Chapter 14

President Henderson’s security detail sealed the emergency briefing room behind him. He sat down at his desk, trying to concentrate on the paperwork in front of him that detailed the logistics of evacuating Manhattan, the expected cost of damages, and the growing numbers of dead Americans. He stared blankly at a column of figures, unable to focus on anything. Absently, he loosened his red tie and threw it onto another chair. A knock on his door shook him from his reverie.

“Come in,” Henderson said.

Two of his generals walked into the office, their uniforms crisp and clean.

“Sir, we have made contact,” one general said.

President Henderson stood up, oblivious of the paperwork that fluttered to the ground. The generals led him to a room with a large screen taking up one wall, a desk with three chairs opposite it set up with microphones. He sat down in the middle chair as one general worked the remote to turn the TV on and tune it to the proper station.

One of the aliens appeared the screen, wearing an unfamiliar uniform. The space around him was completely black, not allowing the president or his generals to get a sense for where the alien was located.

“Is this thing on?” Circo asked, tapping the screen. “Piece of crap.”

“Yes, sir,” another Armazoid said in the background.

“What?” Circo said looking into the lens “Oh shit.”

The humans on the screen looked very nervous. “Hello,” he said, his voice trembling. “My name is Christopher Henderson. I am the president of the United States of America.” The President took a deep breath. “What are your demands from us?”

Circo inwardly smiled at the president’s obvious discomfort. “Well, thank you for your time,” he said sarcastically. “Now we have your attention, let’s get some things straight. If you are president of this planet, you should know what happened to one of our ships that crash landed here a few months ago.”

The President was clearly startled. He could be seen talking with a couple other men in green uniforms. They were shaking their heads. The president turned back to the screen.

“We do not know of any alien spacecraft landing here—we would have returned it to you. I give you my word on that.”

Circo looked at President Henderson. “Well, you have got three Earth hours to find out where it is. Otherwise we will be forced to intensify our attack on this dump you call home.” Circo smiled. “Cheerio.” He switched off the screen and laughed.

“Shit!” President Henderson said. “Right. This is serious. I want every single world president, prime minister, and leader asked about this, and I want some answers.”

“Maybe a ship crashed in a country that is closed to the world...North Korea?” Synder asked.

“Possible,” Henderson replied. “We won’t know until we ask them.”
